A CamScanner alternative for Android, without a watermark on your exports
What each app does, with every claim about CamScanner taken from their own published FAQ. Where their documentation does not answer a question, this page says so rather than guessing.
| Capability | ScanOrbit | CamScanner |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | Android | Android, iOS, the web and a desktop app |
| Basic document scanning | Yes | Yes |
| Where text recognition runs | On the phone, through Google ML Kit. Works with every radio switched off. | Both. Their FAQ documents a built-in engine that needs no internet, and a cloud mode that uploads the image for recognition — described by them as the more accurate of the two. |
| Account needed to scan | No. Open the app and scan; signing in exists only for the optional Pro subscription. | Not stated plainly. Their FAQ describes free scanning and also refers to “Basic accounts” with per-account quotas, so check the current app. |
| Watermark on a free export | None. Nothing is stamped onto a page you export, on any tier. | Their FAQ explains how to remove “the CamScanner watermark and QR code added below the content when exporting”, and the answer it gives is to upgrade to Premium. |
| Where your document is processed | In the app’s private storage on your phone, for scanning, text recognition and the PDF utilities. | Workflow-dependent: locally for capture and the built-in recognition engine, remotely for cloud recognition, sync and several conversion tools. |
| Both sides of an ID card on one A4 page | Built in, at true ID-1 scale — 85.6 × 53.98 mm, the size the card is actually cut to. | Available through their Collage feature, which their FAQ marks as requiring Premium. |
Where these claims come from
Read on October 2026 from CamScanner’s own published help pages, not from a review site — almost every “best alternatives” listicle about this product is written by a rival scanner app. The quotations are theirs. CamScanner’s own FAQQuestions people ask
Does ScanOrbit put a watermark on exported PDFs?
No. Nothing is stamped onto a page you export, on any tier. There is a watermark tool, but it only adds a mark when you ask it to — it exists for marking a document as a draft or a copy, not for branding this app onto your paperwork.
Can I use it without making an account?
Yes. Scanning, text recognition and the PDF utilities need no sign-in at all. An account exists only for the optional Pro subscription and the encrypted backup that comes with it.
Does the text recognition work in airplane mode?
Yes. Recognition runs through Google ML Kit on the phone’s own processor, so it works with every radio switched off. That is also the test worth running on any app that says it works offline: turn the network off and try it.
